Reviews So Far For "Finding a Safe-Haven"

Here are the reviews so far on Amazon for Amber Starks' book, Finding a Safe-Haven:
  • 5 star: "This story draws the reader into an adventure that is sure to please. If you enjoy stories about survival and how people discover their strengths in times of hardship, I think you'll enjoy this book. Read the first few chapters. Interesting so far. Hope the ending is good."
  •
  • 5 star: "This is a fascinating look at what may be ahead. Amber Starks is a first-rate author. Thomas Weston, author of "Fired Up! (Memoir of a Deranged Arsonist)."
  •
  • 4 star: "Amber Starks has bullied her way onto the scene with Finding A Safe Haven, her debut novel, offering up some logical advice to consider when confronted with the zombie apocalypse. A story that pays homage to Dawn of the Dead, and The Walking Dead, Safe Haven will make for a fun read for anyone interested in the zombie genre. The characters are believable, the antagonist is thought-provoking, the scenes described in a way to hold one's interest. Well done."

Pictures from Holy Hill

I took a few pictures at Holy Hill last week, and thought I would post them.  These pictures don't do justice to the impressive nature of the site.

As I mentioned before, Holy Hill will be a significant sight in my upcoming fiction novel, which is in the editing stages and will hopefully be out in a few weeks.

Location Revealed

Amber Starks has revealed news concerning upcoming book, the currently untitled first book in her series "Brenna's Guide to Surviving the Apocalypse."  The book will prominently feature an exciting real-life location, the Basilica at Holy Hill.  The Basilica will become a refuge for survivors of the fictional apocalypse that takes place in her book.

For those who are not familiar with the Milwaukee area, the Basilica is a Catholic shrine built on top of one of the tallest hills in the scenic Kettle Moraines.  Catholics and non-catholics alike have enjoyed the serenity of the site.  Some of the features Amber has enjoyed include:
  • Climbing the 178 stairs to the top of the scenic tower overlooking the Kettle Moraines.
  • Exploring the various hiking trails on the grounds.
  • Walking the trail up the hill, with 14 grottoes depicting the various stages of the cross.
  • Exploring the beautiful Basilica.
  • Enjoying a picnic lunch on the grounds.
  • Enjoying a bowl of soup in the wonderful cafe.
Amber encourages all fans, whether they are religious or non-religious, to enjoy the grounds and all they have to offer, and looks forward to introducing fans to the site in her upcoming book.

New Magazine---Zombie Nation

I was at Walmart and saw a new Magazine, Zombie Nation.  It is published by the publisher of Guna and Ammo, as focuses heavily on self defense against zombies.  Still, it looked cool and had a cool centerfold, a zombie target for the target range.

Introduction---Brenna's Guide to Surviving the Apocalypse

Here is the introduction for book 1 of my new series, Brenna's Guide to Surviving the Apocalypse, which will be coming out in a month or two.  For progress on the book, I still need to proofread it, figure out a title (which I am still struggling with), and get the cover together.

Thanks for reading the intro...

Amber
I don't know who you will be, the person who is still around to read this. Maybe you're my kids, twenty years from now, or maybe you're some other survivors who found my body the day after I wrote this. I guess in the end, it really doesn't matter who you are. What matters is that if you are ready this, I am now dead.

Reading my words will help you learn from my experiences, and continue to survive in this new world we now face. For that reason, I'll keep writing as long as I can. If all of the sudden my writings end, with no explanation, assume that they got me before I could write any more.

By the way, my name is Brenna, and I'm one of the initial survivors. I was completely unprepared when the apocalypse fell across the world. I made a lot of mistakes along the way, but also made a fair number of good decisions as well. I lost several friends, including my best friend Gina. I also made quite a few new friends, and then lost many of them to the scourge we now fight every day.

Yet I'm still here, which says a lot for me I guess. I had a lot of close calls, and a few times when I didn't think I was going to make it. I even lost all hope at one point, but something kept me going and helped me find my hope again.

So learn my lessons, and improve your chances of living through this calamity.

Zombie Research Society---Free Membership

Link here http://zombieresearchsociety.com/join-zrs

This is an internet-based group that communicates about zombie research.  Membership as a "social member" is free, or for $25 you can become a lifetime member.  the paid membership included a t-shirt, as well as eligibility for leadership positions.

This group appears to believe that a zombie apocalypse in inevitable.  Here's some info about their organization, from their own webpage:
ZRS members are known as One Percenters (1%ers), because we are committed to being among the one percent of people likely to survive a global zombie outbreak. Though we represent diverse backgrounds, interests and theories, we are unified in our support of the Zombie Research Society’s three foundational principles:
  1. A zombie is a relentlessly aggressive human or reanimated human corpse driven by a biological infection.
  2. The zombie pandemic is coming. It’s not a matter of if, but a matter of when.
  3. Enthusiastic debate about zombies is essential to the survival of the human race.
